county, and a nasty storm came right along route 50 all the way near croftton. temperatures in arnold 67, 63 toward westminister. not much of a spread this morning, but we have areas of fog. what appears to be a developing thunderstorm just west of hagerstown. otherwise we expect a dry morning. isolated thunderstorms, with a guaranteed high of '88. could reach 90 in backyards. here's kim brown. good morning. hey justin, good morning, everyone. we have another accident reported up in perryville in harper county. police are also still working an accident at the baltimore county line on the eastbound lanes of route 40. right now looking at our drive times however, no problems

around the beltway. looking good from bel air to providence. 95 southbound. traffic starting to build slightly. a four minute ride from white marsh on down. we check our cameras, we are looking pretty good so far here at 83 and warren road. northern baltimore county got hit hard with storms, debris is blocking a couple of intersections. i'll let you know about those in a few minutes. after milton hill was murdered, his daughter said this. i know you are out there i know you are watching me and i'm watching you. you will be uncovered. that scooter? you'll never be able to ride it. he was known as the church guy and he was murdered over his scooter. summer has turned into fall and so far no suspects. it has been almost two months since hill was shot to death behind his home next to

the church. people from hill's community are doing something about it. the neighborhood playground has been cleaned up, they want to get rid of the criminal element that has taken over parts of that area. the 70-year-old was a beloved member of the ark church known as the dedicated caretaker, going out of his way to help others. >> the passing of milton hill really stimulated us to understand that we have to go to the corners, we have to go to the side streets and continue can create an attitude of safety. >> the ark church is also looking for donations to replace the aging playground equipment. in the studio, abc2 news. three minutes after 6:00 right nowch a man accused of beating a dog to death is ordered to do community service as an animal shelter. but the maryland spca is not

happy about this. according to authorities, derek chambers beat a small dog to death after it bit him and his wife. a 911 caller saw chambers hitting the dog with a pipe and he stuffed him interest a plastic bag and threw the dog into the back of his truck. a judge approved chambers's request that he be allowed to do community service at the spca. >> we would never recommend a child molester do community service with the boy scouts, and we should never recommend a person charged with animal abuse do community service with animals. the sentence is simply outrageous, especially since no one asked the maryland spca first. the state's attorney's office says evidence was poor in this case and chambers wasn't read his miranda rights. the department of defense announced the deaths of four sailors killed in a helicopter

crash in afghanistan. 29-year-old lieutenant brendan looney of montgomery county was assigned to a west coast based seal team. looney was a lacrosse player. a funeral has been planned for 1:00 this saturday at st. john the baptist roman catholic church in silver spring. the family of a maryland soldier who died in iraq says sergeant john berner the third was waiting for tests for a respiratory illness. john berner jr. says his 32-year-old son died thursday three days after visiting a military medical facility in kuwait. berner said his son was told he couldn't have a lab test because equipment had been shipped out. his son was given antibiotics, an inhaler, medication for post

that i sal drip -- nasal drip. a spokesperson for the baltimore state's attorney's office says 29-year-old calvin lockner pled guilty to first degree assault. he pled to a 31 year prison term. baltimore city police are asking shoppers business owners to be vigilant following a rash of daytime robberies. police say the problem bears have held up merchants in three separate incidents. a gunman in the latest attack escaped with more than $100,000 worth of jewelry. police are talking with mall security, as well as patrons, for a more precise description of the suspect. >> we have been partnering very closely with mall security and the merchants. the most important part of investigating a robbery is video surveillance. we are educating merchants on things they can do to help police track the suspects down.

13 minutes after 6:00 right now. is your child buckled in properly? this week it is national child safety weak. the goal is to raise awareness on proper car seat installation and securing your children the right way. today in our take five series, we have five tips on the correct seat belt use for children. >> reporter: this week, many organizations are coming together to remind parents to make sure children are secured correctly in cars or suvs. whether it is car seats or seat belt use, children need to be secured. a child should be 4'9" inches for a safety belt to fit

properly. five tips for using a seat belt correctly are. >> the first tip is we want to keep the belt off of the belly. this portion is soft tissue and we don't ever want the seat belt to ride up on the soft portion of the belly. we want it to lay directly in the center of the shoulder. the second tip is don't put is under your arm, because a seat belt is designed to limit forward mobility. in the event of a crash, misuse is not going to limit that mobility. the third tip is, we always want children 12 and under seated in the back of the vehicle. and the fourth tip we want to give is children always learn by example. so if you, the adult, buckles up, your children will buckle up. finally, for a safer and more comfortable fit, don't forget to check out the seat belt adjustor. which can move the seat belt up

firing up here. otherwise areas of fog for us. it looks lake actually a band of clouds coming with this system as it works its way off toward the east. it is hard to determine whether this thing is going to hold tight across the mountain. temperatures right now 67 degrees in baltimore toward richmond. coming off yesterday's high in the 90s. energy well back to our north and west. that is why we'll have a diminished chance of having storms fire up again this afternoon. we tap into some of the mid 90s down to our south. we did make it up to 91 degrees, 95 in richmond, and back toward memphis. really on the edge of this real steamy air mass. it does continue to contain 60s and 70s. still feels like midsummer out

there. a line of showers and storms back toward the mountains. we thought the western suburbs would get clipped. we had enough energy in the atmosphere the final push of the cold front as you see right there in ohio may come through without much of a notice. for today, 88 degrees is above the normal high of 86. tonight patchy fog once again. rebound 92 tomorrow, isolated storms possible. lower on saturday. the next weather system will bring in the threat of run, especially tuesday and wednesday next week we stay in the 70s. thanks, justin. we have a fairly active morning so far on the roadways. fortunately, most of our incidents happening on the

secondary roads. hardly anything occurring on any of the big roadways so far. traffic moves very nice as we look at our traffic cameras here on 83. no problem here southbound at warren road. traffic moves very well. you will find a little bit of slowing around the middletown area. that quickly clears. 75 looking good. the whole stretch between route 140 and the belt lane. no problems we have a couple of accidents. one in baltimore county that has eastbound lanes closed at the bridge. we have two accidents in the area. no word on when that will be reopened. northbound lanes traffic is able to get around that fairly well. but up in monkton. several roads have been closed. wesley chapel road old york road westbound and blue mount road at monkton road all have debris

related issues. keep that in mind before you head out. health news this morning, got milk? turns out it could help you lose wait. dr. timothy johnson has more for us this morning. >> reporter: mom was right. milk does the body good. a new study from researchers found dieters who consumed milk or milk products lost more weight than people who did not eat or drink dairy. participants lost about 12 pounds at the end of the two year study. the participants who drank the least amount of milk and milk products lost an average of seven pounds. more than 300 overweight, middle aged adults participate. vitamin d helps to absorb calcium in the bloodstream, and can be obtained from sunlight, milk, fatty fish and eggs.

overweight people tend to have lower levels of vitamin d, but researchers said this was the first study to show vitamin d increases in the body as people lose weight. 20 minutes after 69:00 this morning. if you get a parking ticket it probably kind of puts you in a bad mood. so one massachusetts town wants to help you relax. the city of cambridge now issues tickets with envelopes featuring yoga poses on them. drivers say it seems very silly. >> i think it is a waste of an envelope. i'm not looking at the poses to relax, believe me i don't absolutely absurd. there is no reason in the world we need this. >> that guy needs the downward dog, for sure. the city says the yoga-themed envelopes don't cost any more money than the old ones. >> what?

four years ago, bob ehrlich got fired as governor of maryland. for good reason. first, he protected tax loopholes for giant cable cable companies.

then, he let utilities jack up our rates 72%. and for the last four years, he worked as a hired gun for big corporations, even a bank that took billions from a taxpayer funded bailout. ehrlich sides with corporate executives again and again and again tell bob ehrlich big banks and billionares don't need help. middle class marylanders do. bob ehrlich pretends to be for the working guy... but he's not on our side. i thought i knew bob ehrlich, but then i found out... he raised property taxes on every maryland family... and business. he increased college tuition... by 40%. 40%. and i thought i knew bob ehrlich. he was against raising the minimum wage. made $2.5 million... working for a lobbying firm. $2.5 million? he's not really on my side. with this tough economy, we really need a governor on our side.
